Peer Learning Hands-on Session on “Python & Basics of Machine Learning”

The Ignite AI Club, in association with IEEE and ISTE, under the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at SMVITM, organized a peer learning session on “Hands-on Session on Python & Basics of Machine Learning” on September 8, 2025, for the benefit of second-year AI&DS students. The session was facilitated by final-year students Panchami Pai, Vishrutha, Amritha U R, Prathvi V Suvarna, Shobith S, Ayush M Anchan, Prajwal Y, Varun Bhat, Shamith Vakwady, and Puneeth Hegde.

Mr. Nagraj Rao, Head of the Department, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in encouraging collaboration and peer-driven learning. The workshop covered Python fundamentals, including data types, loops, functions, and libraries, followed by an introduction to Machine Learning concepts such as supervised and unsupervised learning, with simple regression and classification examples. To provide a
forward-looking perspective, the team also introduced the basics of Deep Learning, explaining neurons, activation functions, and neural network layers.

The session was interactive and hands-on, featuring live coding, problem-solving activities, and open discussions. Participants appreciated the clarity and collaborative teaching approach, making the session both informative and engaging. Through such initiatives, Ignite AI continues to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical application, while fostering a culture of teamwork and knowledge sharing within the department
