
Udupi, Bantakal, 17 October 2025: A team of students from Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, secured First Place at MONAITHON 2025 – two day Medical AI Hackathon held on September 27–28, 2025, at JNNCE, Shivamogga.
The event was organized by the Department of AIML and the ACM Student Council, JNNCE, with the theme of developing Medical AI solutions using the MONAI framework. TEAM ARISE members — Tejas Nayak, Shivam, Poornananda, and Swasthik Yesh — presented their project “Retmanas”, which uses deep learning for retinal vessel and brain tumour segmentation. The solution was developed using UNet and VNet architectures and deployed as an interactive web application using Streamlit and FastAPI.
The team was mentored by Mr. Hitesh Mendon and Mr. Surajit Deb Burma. Their project demonstrated a complete AI workflow with strong potential in medical imaging and clinical applications.

Every year, SMVITM organizes Tantrikothsava, a technical inter-college tech fest, to showcase students’ technical skills. Students are also motivated and guided to participate in various technical events outside the campus.
Many students have participated and won several prizes in various events such as Hackathons, Ideathons, paper presentations, quiz, and robotic events like Robo race, Line follower, Robo soccer, etc.
