Expert Talk on “Preparing Engineers for an AI-Driven Future” Conducted

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), in association with the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized an expert talk titled “Preparing Engineers for AI-Driven Future: Skills, Mindsets and Opportunities” on 06 February 2026 at B003, ECE Department.

The session was delivered by Jayalakshmi K. P. for third-year ECE students, with the participation of 44 students. The talk introduced students to Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a transformative technology shaping modern engineering and industry.

During the session, the resource person explained the fundamental concepts of AI, describing how machines simulate human intelligence such as learning, reasoning, perception, and decision-making. She highlighted the impact of AI across sectors including healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, finance, and education, and demonstrated real-world applications such as autonomous vehicles, intelligent robots, chatbots, smart navigation systems, and computer vision-based industrial inspection.

The discussion further connected AI with engineering applications such as smart robotics, predictive maintenance, intelligent signal processing, and smart energy systems. Students were also introduced to Machine Learning (ML) as the core component of AI systems, explaining how machines learn from data through training datasets, algorithms, and pattern recognition techniques.

Key learning paradigms including supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning were explained in a simple and intuitive manner. The session also emphasized the technical skills required for an AI-driven future, including programming, data handling, analytical thinking, and system-level problem solving, along with the importance of innovation, interdisciplinary learning, and lifelong learning.

The session successfully provided students with a strong conceptual foundation in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, creating awareness about emerging career opportunities and the evolving role of engineers in an AI-enabled world.
