“Young Adulthood: A New Chapter in Parenting” – Talk by Mrs. Soujanya Shetty | 8 November 2025

A Parent–Teacher Meeting was held at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) on 8 November 2025, with a special talk on “Young Adulthood: A New Chapter in Parenting” delivered by Mrs. Soujanya Shetty, an experienced counsellor from Dr. A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi. The programme began with a warm welcome by Dr. Deepika, followed by Mrs. Lolita Pasiya Castelino, who welcomed the dignitaries including Dr. Nagaraj Bhat, Dean of Academics. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nagaraj Bhat emphasized the shared responsibility of parents and the institution in shaping students’ future, highlighting the importance of counselling, academic support, and placement readiness. He also cautioned against malpractices and shortcuts, reiterating that there are no shortcuts to success. During her session, Mrs. Soujanya Shetty highlighted the importance of parental support and understanding during the transition to young adulthood. She encouraged parents to maintain open communication, create a friendly environment, and avoid excessive control, noting that trust and guidance help students become responsible and confident. She also cautioned parents about distractions such as money, media, mobile phones, and motorbikes during the education phase, and stressed the need to cultivate patience, problem-solving ability, and emotional balance in students. The meeting successfully reinforced the collaborative role of parents and teachers in supporting students’ holistic development.
