An awareness session on higher studies and competitive examinations was organized by the Co-curricular Committee and Hobby Project Club of SMVITM on Saturday, 30th August 2025, at the Seminar Hall, Admin Block.
The program was compered by Ms. Sthuthi Bhat, Assistant Professor, Department of Basic Science.Ms. Priya K, Regional Head of Planet Education, Karnataka, served as the resource person for the session.Dr. Nagaraj Bhat, Dean Academics and Principal In-charge, SMVITM, florally welcomed the guest and later presented a token of appreciation.The program began with a comparison between the Indian and overseas education systems, focusing on teaching styles, research opportunities, course flexibility, global recognition, and tuition fees. Important insights on national-level entrance examinations such as GATE were shared, along with preparation strategies for students aiming to pursue higher studies within India.
The speaker then discussed GRE vs GMAT: A Complete Guide, highlighting their structure, purpose, and application in postgraduate admissions. The session also provided a detailed overview of English proficiency tests such as IELTS (International English Language Testing System), explaining test patterns, scoring, and their importance for international admissions.
Students were introduced to various country options for engineering graduates, including the USA, UK, Ireland, and Australia, with an emphasis on emerging domains like Artificial Intelligence, Renewable Energy, and Data Science. Further, the resource person elaborated on scholarship opportunities available through foreign universities as well as initiatives supported by the Central and State governments, and the Ministry of Higher Education abroad. The session also emphasized the importance of direct coordination with universities and the role of free counseling in guiding students toward suitable academic pathways.
In conclusion, the program motivated students to explore diverse opportunities both in India and overseas, and to start preparing early for competitive examinations and admission processes.
The session was successfully coordinated by Dr. Renita S Monis from the Department of Mathematics . A total of 48 students from IV year and 20 students from III year participated and benefited from the program.
