The Ignite AI Club, in association with IEEE and ISTE, organised a peer learning session titled “Financial Planning and Management for the Future” under the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at SMVITM. This session was conducted on September 4, 2025, by Mr. Kevin Mendonca (final-year AI&DS student) for the final-year AI&DS students.
The session introduced the scope and importance of financial planning across different stages of life, emphasising budgeting, emergency funds, investments, and risk management. Students learned about the 50-30-20 budgeting rule, practical tools for expense tracking, and strategies to avoid debt traps. A major focus was placed on building emergency funds covering 3–6 months of expenses and adopting a “save first, spend later” mindset.
The session further explored mutual funds, SIPs, and the role of insurance (health, life, and asset insurance) in ensuring financial security. Students were encouraged to maintain financial discipline through regular expense tracking, adherence to budgets, and responsible credit building.
The peer learning session was both insightful and practical. By learning about budgeting, investments, and risk management, students received valuable guidance that will help them make informed financial decisions. The department’s initiative to organise such sessions has effectively bridged the gap between academic knowledge and real-life financial preparedness.
