SMVITM Research Policy

INCENTIVE TO RESEARCH AND RESEARCH OUTCOME

In view of promoting research culture in the institute, the management has initiated the following encouraging steps. The details are as follows:

1. Full Time Research Scholar

The research centers are allowed full-time research scholars with a stipend of Rs. 30,000/- per month (Basic Science Departments) and Rs. 40,000/- per month (Engineering Departments). The full-time scholar shall engage 10 units of academic load. Selection is based on norms followed for faculty selection.

2. Support for Research Centers

Every research department with a minimum of one candidate is eligible for Rs. 5 lakh at the beginning of each academic year (for a maximum of two centers). Centers may utilize 60% of the fee paid by research candidates for departmental research expenses. Funds are released upon request with invoices.

3. Leave Facility to Pursue Research

Research scholars can avail Special Casual Leave (SCL) to meet the guide, conduct experiments, attend coursework exams, comprehensive viva, or thesis defense. Scholars must request SCL in advance and submit an attendance certificate. Maximum 10 SCL per year.

4. Research Seed Money

  • Total seed money: Rs. 60,000/- for faculty pursuing research.
  • Can be used for workshops, seminars, experiments, testing, or procurement of materials/software.
  • Requests must be routed through research guide, HoD, and Dean (R&C) to the Principal.
  • Special tools or equipment can be purchased through the department.
  • It is mandatory to transfer research credits to the college.

5. Support for Publication and Conference

  • Publication Charges: Up to Rs. 1,00,000/- for Q1 journals and Rs. 50,000/- for Q2 journals (per calendar year), provided the corresponding author is from SMVITM.
  • Conference Support: Rs. 10,000/- for Indian conferences (registration/travel). Rs. 50,000/- once in two years for international conferences (registration/travel).

*Incentives apply if publication charges are not claimed. The first or corresponding author/research guide from SMVITM is eligible.

7. Patents

80% of the registration fee will be paid by the institute. The institute will claim 20% of the royalty from the patent.

This scheme is effective from 01 January 2025.
