The Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal in association with IEEE student branch celebrated International Women’s Day on 12th March, 2019 in the seminar hall of our Admin block. Ms. Anila Andrade, Associate Vice President, 99Games, Udupi was the chief guest of the program.
Celebrations started with the invocation by Ms. Vaishnavi Katte and prelude to women’s day and welcome address was delivered by Ms. Sahana Udupa.
Later, Ms. Anila Andrade began her speech quoting a few examples on how society has a preconceived opinion on women in every aspect of life and how one has to overcome this initial hurdle. Continuing her words, she expressed her view on gender equality. She appealed to the girl students to be confident about their ability and not to fear of any external factors like eve teasing or gender bias in the course of their work life. She also shared a few of her experiences on how she could build a successful life balancing her personal and professional life. Finally she concluded her speech by asking students to identify their own strength by overcoming their weaknesses and establish a successful career.
Ms. Mamatha from 8th sem ECE was felicitated by WEC for immense contribution towards conducting various sessions during the previous years. As a part of Women’s day celebration, Hairstyle and Vegetable art competitions had been conducted. Prizes for the winners were distributed.
Sri. Ratnakumar, secretary, SSMET presided over the program. Speaking on the occasion he expressed his happiness at being a part of such a useful event, as it motivates and empowers the female employees and girl students of SMVITM. He wished to see more of such events being organized by the institution which can boost the confidence of the women community of the college. He shared a few examples of the women who made some remarkable achievements in their field of interest. Finally he wished to see girls achieve greater heights in career fronts and to uphold the values of their parents and the institution. Women Empowerment Cell coordinator, Dr. Lolita Priya Castelino was present on the dais.
At the end of the program fun games were conducted. Members of Women empowerment cell and around 150 student, staff and faculty members participated in the celebrations. Ms. Suraksha of 3rd year ECE introduced the chief guest to the audience. Ms. Niharika of 1st year ECE was the Master of Ceremony. Ms. Rushali of 3rd year ECE delivered the vote of thanks.
