Talk on Gender Equity

The Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, organized a talk on Gender Equity titled “She=he-lets gender sensitise ourself” on 2nd March 2019 in the, Library block Seminar Hall 3. Ms. Laxmi Shetty, Asst. Professor, Dept. of ECE, SMVITM was the resource person.

The session started with the Quote “HE=SHE” which aimed at creating the aura of intended session. Initially the speaker tried to explain the main concept of Gender equity by taking up few examples which throws light upon the concept of equity.

The session later covered an important topic known as” Gender Sensitisation”. Gendered assumptions and gender-based social discriminations exist throughout society, from organisational planning to the everyday interactions at the workplace. Gender sensitisation is the weapon towards Gender Equity, Equal Opportunity and Women Empowerment which is essential for creating sustainable development of the society.

The latter part of the session aimed at ” Women Empowerment”. Empowering women is also an indispensable tool for advancing development and reducing poverty. Empowered women contribute to the health and productivity of whole families and communities and to improved prospects for the next generation. At the end Ms. Laxmi Shetty focused on the importance of bringing change in order to overcome all the evils of the society.

Ms. Rushali of 3rd year ECE introduced the guest speaker to the audience. Members of Women Empowerment Cell and total 162 second year students participated in the session. The students actively participated in the talk by sharing their views and concerns which showed their perspective towards the sensitivity of the issue.
