The Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, organized a talk on “Gender Equity” on 08 November 2017 in the Seminar Hall, Admin Block.
Ms. Geethalaxmi P M from MIT Manipal was the resource person. She explained students the meaning of gender equity as per UNESDOC and difference between gender equality and equity with a story of fox and crane. She gave a brief idea about Indian statistics in terms of empowerment and education.
Ms. Geethalaxmi also gave examples of Anu Sridharan, Saloni Malhotra, and Chhavi Rajawat who have achieved success fighting against all odds. She stressed on the need of discussing the issues and the drawbacks of ignoring them.
The talk was divided into two sessions. Students of CSE and CVE together 168 participated in the first session and students of ME and ECE together 132 participated in the second session. Talk was followed by interactive session where students took active part.
