Students of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology (SMVITM) achieved notable success at Vijnatham Utsav 2026 (13th Edition), a national-level competition held on 19\u201320 February 2026 at Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math, Mandya, Karnataka.<\/p>\n
A team comprising Bhushan Poojary, Shreekiran Bhat, Shreyas Acharya, Amrutha, Vishritha, and Prajwal Gulvadi from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science secured Third Place in the competition. The event brought together innovative student projects from various institutions across the country and evaluated them based on creativity and innovation, scientific principles, technical skills, societal impact and scalability, economic viability, and presentation.<\/p>\n
The team presented their project under the theme \u201cAI and IoT in Agriculture for Food Security (SDG 2 \u2013 Zero Hunger)\u201d. Their project, titled \u201cCROP MATE: Multilingual Crop Detection Based on Sensor Values,\u201d focuses on improving agricultural productivity through AI-based analysis and IoT technology. The system integrates soil sensors and intelligent recommendations to help farmers identify suitable crops and make informed decisions, thereby enhancing crop yield and supporting sustainable farming practices.<\/p>\n
The achievement highlights the students\u2019 innovation and technical capability in applying emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and IoT to address real-world challenges in agriculture and food security.
