\"\"<\/a>The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with ISTE Student Chapter of SMVITM has organized One-Day Workshop on \u201cRecent Developments in Smart Materials & MEMS\u201d on 20th<\/sup> September, 2019 for the benefit of faculty and students of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Gangadharan K V, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NITK, Surathkal and Dr.Udaya Prasanna, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, SMVITM, Bantakal were the resource persons of the workshop.<\/p>\n

Prof. Gangadharan in his presentation, during the morning session thrown light on recent developments in Smart Materials and its applications. The topics covered include, Introduction to Magnetorheological (MR) fluids, fabrication techniques, testing of MR fluids and demonstration on testing of MR fluid with and without magnetic field. The presentation also includes Introduction to Piezoelectric materials and demonstration on performance testing of piezoelectric materials.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, hands on session conducted on various experiments of mechanical tastings using Virtual Lab technology.<\/p>\n

Research scholars from NITK, Mr. Nishan, Mr. Tejas, and Mr. Dinesh have also associated with resource person Professor, Dr. Gangadharan K V. Around 87 Students of Mechanical Engineering have attended the workshop.<\/p>\n

Dr. H Udaya Prasanna in his presentation, during afternoon session explained about Shape memory alloys and its various applications. The presentation also includes, Introduction to Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), fabrication technologies and its various applications.<\/p>\n

HOD of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Sudarshan Rao K welcomed the resource person.<\/p>\n
