The ISTE Chapter of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management, Bantakal, in association with Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) (ACCE) and The Ramco Cements Ltd., organisedguest lectures as part of the ongoing Techno Week -2016 in the institute premises on 26 September 2016.\u00a0 Dr. R Shivashankar, Professor of Civil Engineering, NIT-K, Surathkal presented an informative lecture on \u201cEarth Retaining Structures\u201d dealing with basic properties and behavior of soil under various loading conditions. He also explained various types of earth retaining structures, failure mechanism and different criteria to be considered for the safe design of the structure.<\/p>\n
One more guest of the day, Dr K S Babunarayan, Professor of Civil Engineering, NIT-K, Surathkal, enlightened the audience with his impressive talk on \u201cMulti Hazard Resistant Design\u201d and enriched the audience related tomultiple hazards such as earth quake, tsunami and hurricanes etc and their aftermath on the civil engineering structures. He also discussed remedial measures like implementing base isolation techniques, tuned mass dampers and modifications in the shape of the building to dissipate the hazards with live of prominent structures all around the world.<\/p>\n
