Innanje is a village located about 15 km from Udupi. Tradition says this is the sacred place where the Almighty once partook of the choicest food, thus the name “Undaru.” The village is also honored with the title Bhuktipura Vishwendranagara.
During the British rule, when Dakshina Kannada was part of the Madras Province, very few dared to establish schools in rural areas. On 17 January 1943, Innanje hosted the first Scout Rally of the district. Captivated by the natural beauty of the place, education officers from the Madras government felt inspired to set up a school here. Encouraged by their vision, local leaders, youth, and residents joined hands.
With the support of people from Innanje and surrounding areas, Sanivasa Vidya Mandir was established on 4 June 1943. The institution holds the distinction of being the first residential school in a rural area among the 18 high schools in Dakshina Kannada at that time.
Today, the school flourishes under the blessings of Shri Shri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji and the efficient management of a committed and capable teaching staff.
