The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) Student Chapter of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management Bantakal conducted a two-day hands-on workshop on Linux operating system on 22 and 23 August 2014 for the benefit of the final year E&C Engineering students. Prof. Edwin, a former professor of Electronics Engineering at Spring Garden College, Philadelphia, USA was the resource person. Prof. Edwin said that Linux, which is a free operating system and free from viruses, has been adapted by more computer hardware platforms than any other operating system. He said that Linux is the most preferred operating system for mobile phones, tablet computers, network routers and video games, and is used by 95% of the world’s fastest supercomputers. For this reason, he said that especially Electronics and Computer Engineering students should have knowledge of Linux when they finish their graduation so that they are not left out in the job market. Earlier, Ms. Raksha Bhat introduced Prof. Edwin to the students, Prof. Dr. Balachandra Achar, HOD welcomed him, Ms. Sumana Shenoy proposed the vote of thanks, and Mr. Arun Upadhyaya, Asst. Professor, made the necessary arrangements for the workshop.
