Report on Engineers’ Day and World Ozone Day Celebrations

Engineers’ Day, along with the observance of World Ozone Day, was celebrated under the aegis of the Student Council at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of technology & Management, Bantakal on 16 September 2013.

Mr. P.Veerabhadra Rao, Deputy General Manager, Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd (ISPRL) Govt. of India was the Chief Guest and Mr. Rajashekar B. Puranik, Environmental officer, KSPCB, Regional office, Manipal and Shri Ratnakumar,Secretary, SSVMET, Udupi were the Guests of Honour on the occasion.

A brochure on the recently set up Consultancy & Testing Cell by the Department of Civil Engineering was released by Shri. Srinivas Tantry, Vice President, SSVMET on the occasion.

The Chief Guest, in his inaugural address, recalled the great services rendered by Sir M. Visvesaraya to the nation as a great engineer41 and administrator. He also briefed about the objectives and functions of ISPRL and the current projects undertaken by the organisation.

The Guest of Honour, Mr. Rajashekar B. Puranik briefed about the functions of KSPCB and the various initiatives taken up by it to reduce air and water pollution in and around Udupi.

The Principal Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna S. Aithal in his presidential remarks pointed out the extraordinary qualities of Sir MV and urged the students to set him as their role model in order to be great engineers with technical skills as well as personal qualities.

Prizes to the students, who won prizes in various competitions held in association with Karnataka Pollution Control Board for the students of SMVITM and the SVH English medium High School and PU College as a part of the observance of World Ozone Day, were also given away on the occasion.

Mr. Venugopala Rao, Asst. Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering paid a tribute to Sir MV by reading out a few important happenings and achievements in MV’s life.

Dr. A Ganesha, Dean (Academics) welcomed the gathering and Prof. Nagaraja Rao introduced the Chief Guest and Mr. Ganesh Kalagi, Asst. Prof., Department of Mechanical Engineering  proposed a vote f thanks.

The program was followed by two technical talks: The Future Engineers by Premanand Shenoy, Chief Consultant & Partner, Roy & Shenoy Consultants, Mangalore and a Special Talk on World Ozone Day by Dr. Keyur Ravel, Asst. Prof., Department of Chemical Engineering, NIT- K Surathkal.
